Oscar Pistorius Witch-hunt

Now that the trial of Oscar Pistorius is coming to an end, I wanted to put some of my own views out there.

Firstly, we are all entitled to our own opinion. But is it acceptable to throw accusations left, right and centre? Especially when, quite frankly, it is impossible for the public to know the truth 100%. 

After reading some damning tweets and status', I wanted to; not put my view on whether Pistorius is guilty of murder, but suggest that people should choose their words wisely. Particularly when putting these views into the public domain. 

It's very easy to jump on a witch-hunt bandwagon, even more so when a womans life has been taken. But who are we to decide the fate of a man or determine whether someone is guilty of murder? Staying objective is key in law to see the bigger picture clearly and the effects of such accusations can be catastrophic. 

On 11th September 2014, Oscar Pistorius was found not guilty of murdering his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp. He was found guilty of culpable homicide and one firearm offence. 

Stop FGM

I'm not usually one to discuss politics in too much detail on this blog. 

However, I am extremely glad David Cameron as shone some light on FGM at a global summit today in London. 

FGM; female genital mutilation - "all procedures that involve partial or total removal of the external female genitalia or other injury to the female genital organs for non-medical reasons." - World Health Organisation. 

The cultural ritual is performed in the Middle East, Asia and Africa, by different ethnic groups. 

Prime minister David Cameron said he wants to stop FGM and childhood forced marriages within this generation. A range of measures have been put in place to tackle the issues in England and Wales. 

It disgusts me that such rituals are being performed in this time. Taking free will and choice away from innocent young girls is inexcusable. I can only hope that every adult or person that chooses to do such horrible things to young girls faces prosecution or worse. 

Stuck in the Past

Outrageous. Weird. Time-warped. Even borderline fascist.

I'm definitely not one to contain my opinion. So when watching BBC 1's Nick and Margaret: Too Many Immigrants? it must've taken some outrageous opinions to gain a reaction from me.

Part one of the programme looked at housing and work in Britain from both born-and-bred Brit and immigrant.

I felt an underlying favour towards the immigrants throughout the programme - but then, maybe that's because it's just the truth?

Quite frankly, the Brits that appeared looked stupid, sometimes racist.

I am incredibly patriotic. But I'm not deluded. I understand that immigrants are not in fact taking our jobs and houses/accommodation.

I find that view considerably narrow and quite honestly, stuck in the past. I welcome change and diversity.

Where would we be if we just had an all-white, all-british nation?

Rolf Harris - Guilty

Entertainer Rolf Harris has been found guilty of sexual assaults.

The 84 year old is found guilty of 12 counts of indecently assaulting four girls throughout the decades; 1960's, 1970's and 1980's. One of whom was a friend's daughter. 

As with any case involving sexual assault, I find the nature of the cases considerably disturbing and surprising. 

Sadly, what has become somewhat unsurprising to the British public and even worldwide, is the renowned public figures being found guilty of such crimes. 

Rolf Harris is one of many public figures to be found guilty of commuting such horrid crimes, including; Stuart Hall and Jimmy Savile. 

Harris is due to be sentenced Friday 4th July.

Dolly at Glastonbury

The legend who is Dolly Parton performs at Glastonbury.

Sparkles, banjos and wigs galore, Dolly gave an upbeat country set worthy of the Pyrmaid Stage. Undoubtedly a legend. 

But is she our legend? 

As a Brit, I know that country music isn't quite the nations first choice. And I have no doubt that Dolly gave a brilliant performance. 

But I couldn't help thinking throughout; is this what they really want to see on the Pyramid Stage? 

Granted, there were many people who knew the words to popular songs such as; Jolene and I Will Always Love You. 

Other than the more well-known tracks, the audience looked awkward, bobbing their heads and singing the wrong words. 

Maybe it was just me? What are your thoughts fellow Brits? 

It's Been Too Long

It has been too long hasn't it?

I've been so wrapped up in uni work and my personal life I took some time out from blogging. Apologies. 

But I'm back, and I look forward to bitching, criticising, analysing and generally sharing my opinionated views on everything in the Media with you again.
